Cinque terre. Traveling to Riomaggiore.

The easiest way to get to Cinque Terre, the famous five lands, is to go to La Spezia and catch a train.

The ticket costs just few euros and you can use it for six hours.
Six hours is not enough to see it all,
you'd better purchase round trip ticket or be prepared to either start running, be kicked out of the train or pay the fine.
It is up to you I guess.
Since I was traveling this time with a group of people, the choice was not mine and they purchased a group ticket for six hours.
We ended up running through the train, which the group considered as the highlight of the day.

First stop Riomaggiore.
It is just two stops from La Spezia if I recall well.
Riomaggiore is the most southern village of the five lands, dating from the early thirteenth century, and it is known for its historic character and its wine.

Riomaggiore is very, VERY small.
Has a nice walking path over the cliffs but this path (to my devastation!) was closed because of the landslides that are quite common here after heavy rains.

Beautiful view it was.
Tourist attractions in the region include a famous walking trail between Manarola and Riomaggiore (called Via dell'Amore, "Love's Trail") and hiking trails in the hills and vineyards above the town.

Since the trail was closed that day, I took some quick photos and decided to catch the first train to Manarola.

I liked these cliffs.
And narrow tall houses overlooking these cliffs.

Self portrait with my new friends.
One is a teacher and other is a policewoman.
Go figure...

The beauty of Riomaggiore.
You decide what it is.
Enjoy.

Hey, I hear the train coming.
Gotta run!
