Road to Palermo. The funniest coffee break I ever had.

That day was warm.
I still remember.
We rented an old Fiat Uno and drove to Palermo from Giardini Naxos, Sicily.
Beautiful scenery.

Well, actually these two below represent a typical Sicilian graveyard.

And this is the center, heart of Sicily.

I thought this was supposed to be a FUN road trip...

Too much of the sea, sun and fun these days I guess :).

Crazy how hectic it gets.
The traffic.

And all of the sudden - nobody!

Even the dogs were taking nap.

Everything was closed.
Restaurants, cafes...
Opening hours are really strange and we came in too late (or was it too early?)
Took a walk in the park.

One of the senior citizens thought my friend was the prettiest woman he saw.
Maybe we should trust him, I mean - he is quite old, he must have seen many women in his lifetime.
We will close one eye on the fact she belonged to another man.
:)

Since we planned to go to Cefalu later that day, we decided to go to the cathedral and main piazza, get some coffee and leave before Palermo becomes too crowded with cars and people.

Piazza Pretoria.

We managed to crush a wedding that day in Palermo.

My favorite part of that day,
except the old guy trying to get my friend's attention,
was this silly cafe next to the cathedral by the main piazza.

We wanted to have coffee.
The waiter said ''0.80 EUR if you stand by the bar inside, 1.20 EUR if you sit inside, and 1.80 EUR if you sit outside''.
It was very warm, and we are from the Balkans - both facts lead to the conclusion we will be sitting, and outside (of course).
''Why is the price different?" we asked.
"Because of this beautiful view of the Cathedral of course" said the waiter.
Ok, let us sit outside.

He then took a plastic table and chairs and took them outside.
Do you see anything weird on this photo?
(Apart from my friend's ancient phone.)
WE WERE SITTING OUTSIDE ON THE ROAD!
He charged us coffee with a view - and we had to LITERALLY move our table every time a car passed by.
Hilarious Sicilians!
I LOVED it.
