Alexandria. And its trasures.

Founded in 331 BC by Alexander the Great.
His statue welcomes you when you enter the city.

Second largest city in Egypt.
Payed it a visit one sunny day.

The drive through the desert.
Yawn.

These white towers are pigeon breeding place.
Pigeons are very popular in Egypt.
Considered as delicacy actually.

On our way to Alexandria we stopped by a local farm that is also a ZOO.

I played with a lion there.
Today he would probably bite.

Alexandria is not as crowded and hectic as Cairo.
And it has this kind of European vibe (when compared to Cairo).
But I prefered Cairo.

Streets of Alexandria.

We passed by this weird tall building that is actually a window wide.

Urban planning.
They must have copied from us I guess.

The Orthodox Church.

Mosque of Abu el Abbas.

Women had to enter on the separate way in.

Did you know that at this place where the citadel is famous Pharos lighthouse was standing in all its glory.

Alexandria harbor and the beach now-days.

I really like this photo with the boats.

A tiny lighthouse.

People sunbathing and swimming.

What many of you do not know is that Alexandria has its real treasures hidden.
See this dark blue circle that is?

In here, artifacts from throughout the history are hidden.
This city was in ruins many times.
Temples were built and destroyed.
Repeatedly.
This is what is left.
And it is under the sea.

Amazing isn't it?

Makes me wanna dive in.
If only I knew how.
Will put the diving lessons on my bucket list.
Again.
